I love that you are focusing on the student rather then the content. I think as professional students, we know what we are learning today is not going to make or break our ability to be successful. However, learning how to be passionate and motivated by our work does influence that outcome. I think that is one of the most important lessons to learn when your 18-20-something. You know more then anyone how grade obsessed I am (at times I should be in counseling about this), however what about making the final grade a discussion? The student and the teacher can self grade their work based on outcome, passion, and skills learned. I remember I had a teacher who would do this in grade school, we would grade our self and others in our group on how well we thought we did. I was sooo torn because I wanted so very badly to give myself an A++ but some annoying part of my morals would never let me and I would give myself a B+ and then write all the things I could have done better. (followed by bully-ing the other kids in my group into giving me A's so I would still get the grade I wanted)Just a thought.
